▾ 2025 RULES & INFO ▾

WHICH CATEGORY TO ENTER?

We get asked which category is which from time to time, so we decided to break it down and post it here for your convenience.

Beginner  (Cat 3) – this category is for anyone who is just starting to race, even if you have ridden for a couple years it may not be a bad idea to enter your first (or first several) races as a beginner.

Sport (Cat 2) –  this category is for intermediate riders, and racers who have progressed past the beginner category.  Usually these riders will spend several hours a week on the bike.  The Sport category often has the most competitors.

Expert (Cat 1) – an expert racer has been riding and racing for several years. The expert racer was consistently in the top 5 of the sport category, and is ready for a challenge.  Expert racers train hard and learn each race course.

Pro – this category is for extremely experienced racers only, it will be extremely competitive.  Pro racers have usually been racing for several years, train consistently, and focus on learning each aspect of a race course.

2025 SERIES RULES (AGS DOWNHILL AND ENDURO)

Racers will receive points for all races that are finished, there is no minimum number of competitors in each class to receive points.

Each racers worst race will be dropped from the standings, so if there is 5 races we will only score 4 of them per rider.  This keeps the field competitive.

Standings will be updated after each race, and will be available on the vnwtiming.com web site as well as the velo-northwest.com.

All racers will be required to wear a helmet at all times while on course.

Any racer caught cutting course will be disqualified and no refund will be given.

COURSE MARKINGS

STAGES / COURSES – All Velo Northwest stages/courses are marked with blue flags, arrows, paint, and often with blue race tape.  Please make sure to read all signage when previewing a course, this will help you get where you need to go.

Transfer stages, and other untimed sections will be marked with white flags, or arrows on white paper, or white paint.

Courses will typically be announced one week before an event, and marked completely before organized practice begins (details on each events page).

This is our 17th year putting on the Double Down Hoe Down (the original name of this race) at Beacon Hill!

The downhill race season is back upon us, and we’ll be kicking it off at Beacon in Spokane, WA again for 2024!

Two downhill races, one day!  The courses will be like they have been in the past – running a classic “Saturday” style course for race number one, and a slightly more technical “Sunday” style course for race number two.

DH1 – Blast Off (newly rebuilt!) > Hollywood
DH2 – Artificial High > Lower Bomber

Both courses will have appropriate go-around/easy out lines for all levels of racer.

Friday – Practice from 12-5pm, late registration/check in from 3-5pm.

Saturday – Practice all day – unsupported, ride with care

Sunday – RACE!  Start times TBA

Most already know that this is a hike-a-bike event, the climb up is pretty short, and has never been a problem for anyone before.  Because of the logistics of the hill we can’t offer shuttles and the event is priced appropriately for being an unshuttled race.
Awards and prize raffle will take place immediately after second race is complete.

Printable waiver – click here

Important notes –
– no parking at Esmeralda Golf Course for racers on the day of the event (Stage 4 will also return you to Camp Sekani, so this would be inconvenient)
– Elite E Bike racers will repeat stage 2 (making 5 total stages), a second number plate will be waiting for you at the top, you will change this number plate for your repeat stage and then change back!
– all categories will be assigned a “stage order” and will be expected to stick to that order
– there will be a stage cutoff time announced during the event week, all racers must start specified stages by indicated time

For 2025 this will be a single day event with 4 stages for all racers!  All racers should expect 2000-2500 feet of climbing, with plenty of time to complete the enduro and still practice for the next days downhill races (see OMNIUM PRIZE).

Friday – Practice all day, and plate pickup from 3-5
Saturday – Racing, see schedule above in “When & Where”

Live timing during race is our goal, awards after final racer is finished.

We use a fly-through finish RFID timing system and live results when possible.

Hotels in the area offering special rates for Hubapalooza.  Click here.

We have a large parking area available to us, but please remember that there will be several hundred attendees at this event, so please be respectful.

Camping on site – there is a limited amount of camping space available.  It is on a first come first serve basis and gates will open at 3pm on Thursday.  Please observe all signs, don’t expand into the parking area, and understand that there is limited space so you can not spread out too much.  Important – absolutely no loose pets and no spark producing flame (no wood, propane with ground cover is OK).  Any party not complying with this will be disqualified, asked to leave, with no refund.  Non negotiable.

WHAT is HUBAPALOOZA?

Hub-a-Palooza is a 3 day mountain bike festival that takes place at Beacon Hill (Camp Sekani) in Spokane, WA April 11-13, 2025; past participants would tell you that it is the best way to start off your race season.  With events going all day long, a schedule allowing riders to compete in all events if they so choose, you won’t find yourself sitting around for hours waiting for your start time.

Camp Sekani/Beacon Hill is Spokane’s local trail network with plenty of trails to ride, a jump park, pump track, hiking, and a river across the street to keep the entire family engaged through the weekend.  There are food vendors on site Saturday and Sunday for those who forget their lunch!

This is our 12th Hub-a-Palooza, but our 18th year putting on this event at Beacon Hill.  Over the years we have watched this event and the trail system that it operates on, flourish…  We are excited to share some new trail developments with you, and show you why people make Beacon Hill a destination for riding nearly year-round.

Don’t forget about our OMNIUM PRIZE!  We always have an extra special raffle for racers who compete in both downhill and the enduro event!  Schedules may look tight, but we have this event functioning so racers can compete in every event.

2025 will see the same race format as 2024, with both downhill races happening on Sunday, and the enduro on Saturday.

Downhill races – Two different courses, that have been revamped over the last season.  Riders will have all day Friday and Saturday to practice these courses, races will run concurrently with start orders organized so that racers can race each course.  Our goal is to get everything wrapped up sooner so we can get all the travelers back on the road with their medals!

Enduro race –  two new trails, more fun.  We have also trimmed down the categories, we have combined all beginner & sport racers and kept their respective age groups (enduro only, all age groups still exist).  Questions?  Hit us up!  Meal included with enduro entry!

Elite Enduro E-bike will race 6 courses, everyone else races 4 courses.

Awards & raffle will take place on both Saturday and Sunday; raffles will be awarded to those who are present only!  OMNIUM prize for competing in all 3 events will be raffled on Sunday during downhill awards.

Join us for 2025 Hubapalooza at Beacon Hill, it’s going to be awesome!
